PackStack™ & PackStack™ PRO
PackStack™ & PackStack™ PRO are made to last for a long time. They are designed and built with carefully chosen materials and components but we also need your help caring for them. Different recommendations apply depending on how dirty your PackStack™ & PackStack™ PRO are.
There are a few “do not” you should be aware of;
Do not dry clean
Do not iron
Do not machine dry
Just dusty no real dirt
1. Unzip your PackStack™ / PackStack™ PRO
2. Rinse them off with cold water
3. Let them hang-dry (do not machine dry) with the zipper open
4. When your PackStack™ is dry, you can then fold and put back into the integrated pocket. For PackStack™ PRO, fold and put back into the external pocket
Dirt on inside / outside
1. Unzip your PackStack™ / PackStack™ PRO
2. Use a cold water machine wash or cold water hand-wash (if you use a detergent and plan on travelling in bear country, we recommend you use an eco-friendly liquid fragrance-free detergent)
3. Let them hang-dry (do not machine dry) with the zipper open
4. When your PackStack™ is dry, you can then fold and put back into the integrated pocket. For PackStack™ PRO, fold and put back into the external pocket
Crampons
We are using two different types of steel for our crampons: stainless steel and carbon steel (see list below divided by model). Stainless steel is known for its high resistance to staining caused by corrosion. Carbon steel is known for being stronger, harder and lighter than stainless steel, however the material is capable of rusting if left in a moist environment for a longer time.
Stainless steel is used in the following crampon / spike models:
• FreeSteps6
• FlexSteps
• Trail Crampon Ultra
Carbon steel is used in the following crampon / spike models:
• Trail Crampon
• Trail Crampon PRO
• Cypress6
Recommended care for stainless steel spikes:
1. Always remove your crampons from your shoes/boots after using them
2. Rinse your crampons (whole piece) in cool freshwater (make sure to get any salt away from the rubber and steel surfaces)
3. Place a towel or a piece of paper on a flat surface (room temperature). Lay out or hang your crampons to dry completely
4. Once dry, inspect your crampons / spikes and if all good, fold them with the spikes facing inwards and store in your Spikeeper or other breathable crampon bag.
5. Store your Spikeeper or other breathable crampon bag in a cool and dry place
Shorter spikes, like the ones used on FreeSteps6, FlexSteps and Trail Crampon Ultra tend to not need to be sharpened. If the spikes at the heel area of the Trail Crampon Ultra need to be sharpened after hitting some rocks, you can sharpen them with a flat file (only file in one direction, not back and forth). It is Important to avoid sharpening them to a fine point or over file the spikes, as it can cause them to break.
Recommended care for carbon steel spikes:
Carbon steel is a very strong, hard, and lightweight material (compared to stainless steel), but it can get surface rust if left in a moist environment. Surface rust is not as bad as it looks, and there are steps you can take to manage this to continue using your carbon steel crampons for a long time.
1. Always remove your crampons from your shoes/boots after using them
2. Rinse your crampons (whole piece) in cool freshwater (make sure to ge any salt away from the rubber and steel surfaces)
3. Place a towel or a piece of paper on a flat surface (room temperature). Lay out or hang your crampons to dry completely
4. Once dry, inspect your crampons. If you notice surface rust on the carbon steel, use a WD-40 (loosen the bonds between the surface rust and carbon steel surface) and a cloth to wipe off the surface rust. Careful to avoid getting WD-40 on the rubber or strap portion of the crampon. Once no more rust comes off (check your cloth) you can stop
5. If there is still discoloring left, you can move into using a fine scotch brite. Rub it on the surface and most of it should come off.
6. Once you are done, make sure they are dry. Fold them with spikes facing inwards and store in your Spikeeper or other breathable crampon bag. Store your Spikeeper or other crampon bag in a cool and dry place
As you know the Trail Crampon, Trail Crampon PRO and Cypress6 are equipped with slightly longer spikes than our other models and use carbon steel. Carbon steel is a very strong material and tend to not need to be sharpened. If, for some reason, you need to sharpen your spikes, you can do so with a flat file (only file in one direction, not back and forth). It is Important to avoid sharpening them to a fine point or over file the spikes, as it can cause them to break.
BTR Stool
Cleaning the seat
If the seat needs a clean after coming in contact with a dirty surface, if something leaked onto it or it has been exposed to for example dust, this is how you do it.
Light dirt:
1. Assemble your BTR Stool. Keep the seat attached
2. Use a damp cloth to wipe off the seat surface
3. Let the stool stand upright to allow for the seat to fully dry. Keep out from direct sunlight
4. Store your BTR Stool in a dry, shaded environment when not in use
Heavy dirt:
1. Detach the seat
2. Hand wash in cold water. Make sure to fill up a tub / basin with water and add a light liquid detergent or soap, make sure it is well-mixed with water before adding your seat to it (this is to avoid residue getting stuck in the mesh.) Never machine wash the seat. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach products. Do not machine dry
3. Wipe the seat off on both sides with a dry cloth or paper towel, and put flat or hang it to fully dry. Keep out from direct sunlight4. Attach the seat to the frame again. Store your BTR Stool in a dry, shaded environment when not in use
Cleaning the frame
Where possible, keep the centrepiece clear of snow, ice, water, sand and grit in order to enhance the longevity of the BTR Stool. Being proactive around this is the best thing you can do. However, if there is still dust and other dirt building up on the frame that you want to clean, this is how we recommend you to do so:
1. Assemble your BTR Stool. Keep the seat attached
2. Use a damp cloth to wipe off the legs, centrepiece and feet. There is no need to use detergent, sprays or soap. Do not use a high pressure hose. Do not submerge the frame in water
3. Let the stool stand upright to allow for the frame to fully dry. Keep out from direct sunlight4. Store your BTR Stool in a dry, shaded environment when not in use
General care and maintenance
• Keep a good habit of always checking your gear after outings. If there is any debris stuck on the legs or centerpiece - make sure to follow the advice above before storing it
• Use care when extending the legs of the stool. Excessive force can pull the legs out of place and may damage the chair
• The BTR Stool is only intended to be used on a flat surface. Only when the weight is evenly distributed across all three legs can the load capacity be guaranteed. Using this product on an uneven surface or while leaning on one side should be done so at risk of the user. Avoid slippery surfaces
• Do not, stand on the seat, throw or drop this product, expose the fabric to fire and hot surfaces, or have more than one person using the stool at the same time
